The life of forms. Philosophy of re-enchantment
He announced it on Instagram to his 1.2 mln followers by posting a photograph of the cover. After his appointment as creative director of the Valentino Maison, Alessandro Michele thus launched the book on the philosophy of fashion co-written with philosopher Emanuele Coccia. The 224-page book is entitled 'The Life of Forms. Filosofia del reincanto', is published by HarperCollins in Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, will be released in bookshops 7 May and will be officially presented at the Turin Book Fair on the 11th. The book is about the alchemy of the forms of life.
'Fashion shapes,' Coccia wrote on his instagram profile, 'are not only tools for knowing the world and ourselves. They are also amulets with which we invent and experience new freedoms. Freedom to resurrect shelved possibilities. Freedom to construct new meanings. Freedom to choose who we are'.
By retracing and commenting on Michael's work and adopting the posture and graphic form that was once reserved for sacred books, the book thus shows that fashion is the most powerful art because it is the only one capable of changing our life, our body, our face in an instant: if the other works of art presuppose a relationship of pure contemplation, every dress imposes a transformation of the self in order to become the object of our experience.
And at the same time it is the most metaphysical art because it contradicts the cliché that describes the West as a culture that reduces all things to inanimate matter.

Fashion exists only because we recognise that things, fabrics, their shape, their colours, allow us to say 'I', and give our personality that accent and posture that make it unmistakable.In short, fashion is the expression of a profane, everyday form of animism: thanks to it, we transform ourselves into sorcerer's apprentices of a twin that takes on our own likeness.
